Free Card-Making Paper

I enjoy making my own cards and gift tags. Gifts, in general, should be thoughtfully purchased or created, and when I create a card or gift tag to adorn the gift, I like it to personally reflect the person (or my relationship with the person) I intend to give it to. But making cards can be costly. And often I don't have enough time to run to a store to get supplies for a last minute gift anyway.

My solution: recycled paper. I have always had a difficult time throwing away beautiful papers that have entered my home. And the papers can come from everywhere; advertisements in the mail, packaging from something I purchased, calendars, boxes, bags, tags, inserts, envelopes, and cards people give to my family. Most of the time, all of these sources have one side with no print, and often, the paper is strong and usable. And almost always, people just throw these wonderful paper bits into the garbage or recycling without any thought. I like to try and use this paper one more time before it is tossed out. Repurpose the paper and then recycle it is my thought.

Photo Journal (04/16/11 - 04/22/11)

I think taking photos all the time is finally becoming habit. I'm starting to see things with different eyes. I feel like I'm more mindful of the beauty around me on a daily basis.  Sometimes I wish I could just blink my eyes and take a quick shot, though: often, by the time I take out my phone to take a photo, the moment has passed and I just have to try and remember it on my own.

Creative Spotlight : Where The Hell Is Matt?

I long to find a way to combine everything I have passion for into a profession. I suppose that's part of why I am doing this blog -- I simply want to do what I do and somehow follow its path to a purpose. I don't know why I do what I do. All I know is that I enjoy it. So naturally I admire people like Matt who has managed to turn his goofy dance into a job.

If you don't know about Matt, he did a little video of himself dancing the same dance in various locations while on a trip around the world. Stride gum found out about the video and hired him to shoot more videos of himself dancing around the world. The videos are no longer new, but they still make me smile. Check them out at www.wherethehellismatt.com.

Cheap Marker Paper

My daughter enjoys drawing far more than I ever did as a child. She has, what seems, a physical need to express herself on paper. And for some reason, her preferred drawing implement right now is the thin marker. I bought her two sets of markers (we use the Crayola Super Tips washable variety)-- one for the kids' downstairs art cabinet, and the other for the kids to use in my studio -- and they have kept her busy drawing each day.

Photo Journal (04/02/11 - 04/08/11)

I finally reached a day when I had no photos by the end of the day.  That's when I took Saturday's shot of my daughter's new markers. Officially, I haven't missed a day, but I sure feel like I missed that one.

Photo Journal (03/26/11 - 04/01/11)

I had trouble on Monday coming up with something "unusual" to shoot. Then I remembered that that isn't the point of this exercise. So I looked at my laundry basket, something I see all the time, and thought that it deserved it's moment in the spotlight.

Coal Creek Trail

We decided to go for an easy little hike the other day: Coal Creek Trail.
