Angry Birds Party Hats

While planning my son's Angry Birds themed party, one of the first ideas I had was to create Angry Birds party hats. I had a vision in my head of little kids running around my yard with birds on their heads... This is what I came up with.

Materials:
  • bird face images (see below)
  • yellow party hats
  • black feathers
  • scissors
  • invisible tape
  • double sided tape or glue

I began by cutting out one face image. Next, I turned the image over and placed double sided tape on the back of the image around the edges.

Being careful to line up the image to the center of the hat, I attached the face to the hat, smoothing the image from the center out to the sides around the hat.
Once the image was attached, I flipped the hat over. Using the edge of the hat as a guide, I cut the bottom of the face image to fit the contour of the hat. After trimming the image completely, I set the hat aside to work on the feathers.
I chose two feathers and gripped them together at the point I wanted the feathers to enter the hat. I stripped the feathers below my finger grip...
... and used invisible tape to wrap the stripped ends of the feathers together.
Wrapping the tape around the base of the feathers held the feathers together and made the next step much easier.
Next, I poked the taped ends of the feathers through the top of the hat.
I pushed the feathers through all the way up to where the fluffy part of the feathers began.
On the inside of the hat, I used invisible tape to attach the feather ends to the front of the hat. Taping the feathers to the front held the feathers in place and gave the feathers a slight tilt to the back of the hat.
After that, the hat was complete. Any of the Angry Birds characters can be created into hats using this method. I chose to use only yellow because I wanted to stay more true to the shape of the birds -- yellow Angry Birds happen to be triangular in shape, and I'm a little bit obsessive about those types of details.

Happy hat-making!

  31. Themes can be chosen from favorite acitivies, recent novels you have read, trips you have made, recent movies, or they could simply be based on the season or even. Of course, if you are holding a birthday or other party for someone special, choose their favorite acitivity, vacation spot or whatever.
