Leaping Cups

In honor of leap year, I had my kids make some "leaping cups." I originally got this idea from, but since I hadn't looked at the tutorial for awhile, I ended up doing it just a little bit differently. It still worked, so I guess I didn't completely mess it up!

Book Report "Mask"

My son finished up a fun book report project over his winter break. First, he was required to read a book, and after choosing one of the characters in the book, he wrote down the answers to several questions his teacher gave him from the character's perspective. Here are the questions he was required to answers:

Mini Mardi Gras

My husband thinks I need to let everyone in on a little secret: I like to surprise my family with special dinners. Sometimes I prepare them in advance, but often I find out there's some holiday I forgot to prepare for and then I'll magically transform our dinner table for the occasion.

Colorful Hands

I forgot to gather supplies so the kids could make their weekly craft, so when I looked into the craft bag during my daughter's vision therapy appointment and found only colored pencils and paper, I had no idea what we were going to do.

All I have to say is, "Thank you, internet!" I did a search for kids art projects using colored pencils and I ran into this colorful hands blog post that I knew the kids would be able to tackle.

Foam Heart Flowers

I came up with these foam "heart flowers" as a craft for my daughter's class Valentine's Day party. It was an extremely inexpensive, clean, and easy project for the kids, and both girls and boys enjoyed the craft.

Felt Happy Hearts

This year I made "happy heart" pins for my daughter's class. These were a bit ambitious, but the end result was so darn cute! If you don't want to make these for your child's entire class, consider making one to brighten a teacher's day!

Valentine Squinkies

My son wanted to give out Squinkies for Valentine's Day. If you don't know anything about Squinkies, you can check them out here. Basically, they are tiny little toys that come in plastic balls like the ones kids see all the time in vending machines. Since all I had to do was find a way to package these up for the big day, I was okay with the idea. I think they turned out just fine!

My son can't wait to hand these puppies out!

Heart Breakfast #1

I had some fun with hearts: heart-shaped pancakes, butter, and sausages. It's funny, but my kids eat more when the food excites them. My daughter, who seems to dislike meat most of the time, actually ate three of these sausages.

I have so many Valentine's Day ideas! I'll try to post a few of them before the big day!
