La Brea Tar Pits & Museum

My mom has always wanted to visit La Brea Tar Pits & Museum, and while I had never heard of it before our visit, we knew we should take the opportunity to visit this museum while we were in Los Angeles. When else would we have the chance to see fossils of animals trapped in tar pits long ago?

I had no idea what was in store for us! We saw a wonderful assortment of fossils, from huge Mammoth skeletons to hundreds of Dire Wolf skulls.

Surrounding the museum are smelly, bubbling pools of tar. The museum does a good job of connecting this tar to the exhibits within the museum.

Also within the museum is a live lab where scientists clean and study fossils right in front of visitors.

My kids found it all amazing! Watching scientists actually work on these huge animals that no longer walk the earth and seeing the size of some of these animals, like Giant Sloths... My son kept saying his mind was blown. I think that's a good thing!

If you have the time in LA, definitely give La Brea Tar Pits & Museum a visit. You never know, you might have your mind blown like my son!
