Some days, an artist just feels like creating art. Yesterday was just one of those days, so we set aside our normal homeschooling routine and I set up the table with watercolor, gouache, ink, paper and brushes instead. My only instruction? Paint a bird you have seen in your backyard.
There was some discomfort at first. I'm pretty sure the kids felt like I threw them into the deep end of the watercolor pool and just let them splash there, helplessly.
But after awhile, they began to relax. They began to trust in themselves. Trust in the magic of art inside themselves.
And art happened.
Sometimes you just have to let it.
